Every step helps

The link between physical movement and mental health is well established. Regular exercise has been shown to improve mood, reduce stress and boost self-esteem. Exercise is like a natural happy pill.

But let’s face it – sometimes it can be tough to motivate ourselves to get to the gym or put on our training shoes. We often don’t feel motivated and this derails us but what if motivation only comes after completing the movement! I know personally in my life I regularly don’t feel like training but I have established a routine where I do it just like I brush my teeth everyday and guess what, I always feel so much better afterwards. Motivation regularly comes after the action!

So let’s get moving. Here are some ideas for easy ways to start feeling better:

  • Go for a hike if you are lucky enough to like near beautiful trails or take a stroll around your neighbourhood. Bring a friend if you need extra support or accountability.
  • Do a home workout: there are so many free workout videos available online. From yoga to high-intensity interval training, you can find a workout that meets your interests and fitness level.
  • Go for a bike ride to explore parts of your area you don’t normally get to visit.
  • Join a local sports team or club so you are part of a group
  • Get your dance on with your favourite music and move your body freely

The ideas are endless. They don’t have to involve lots of money and endless travel time. Pick one activity and stick to it for a certain amount of time to build momentum.

Not sure where to start or wanting additional support? No problem. As a health coach I can help you set and achieve your goals, all while providing support and encouragement along the way.

Let this be the year you lead a happier and healthier life.
