Sleep

Like many of us I regularly put sleep to the bottom of my list of priorities. Everything else works its way into that time. I tell myself I will catch up on it at a later stage. I will sleep when I die mentality. The past few months I have had a much less sleep than I my body desires. This had resulted in me feeling less rejuvenated than I would like and lacking my usual spark in everyday activities. As a result, I put it as my focus for the week and wow how it has changed my whole day. I feel calmer and more grounded in my body. I don’t feel scattered and I have a lot less fogginess throughout the day. I can make clearer decisions and my intuition is much stronger. It has also drawn me back to meditation which I stopped over the past number of months.

Some things that have helped:

-Eat at least 2 hours before bed

-Use lamps and candles to reduce the level of artificial light before bed

-Switch off electronics 1 hour before bed

-Put your phone in airplane mode (I use it as my alarm so I still keep it in the bedroom)

-Get to bed an hour earlier than usual

These simple steps have made a huge impact on my physical and mental wellbeing.

Life will always have busy periods but it is a reminder for all of us to still try our best to keep sleep on our priority list.
